Films In Colour Win New Popularity

OUTDOOR FEATURES PROMISED Warner Bros. First National, who pioneered with colour pictures only a few years after they gave Vita- , phone to the world, will continue to make a. limited number of 'JL'ecnnicolour features of an exceptional nature, according to J. L. Warner, vice-president in charge of production. “At present wo have two colour pictures definitely planned for next year’s programme,” says Mr Warner. “One will bo ‘God’s Country and the Woman’ in which George Brent and Beverly Roberts are teamed and w T hich is nearly completed. “This is an elaborate outdor feature, and the company has spent several weeks in the beautiful timber country of Oregon and Washington. It is the kind of story to which colour lends itself most advantageously, and we expect it to be one of the most important i features to come from Hollywood in the season 1936-37.” The second colour picture, Mr Warner added, will be a new screen version of one of the most popular musical shows ever written, “The Desert Song.” No cast has yet beent named for this, but it will bo au important feature on the schedule for 1937. “The public has shown a great renewed interest in outdoor colour pictures,” says Mr Warner. “Our companies made tho first pictures of this type when wo produced ‘‘Song of the West,” “Bride of tho Regiment,” “Song of the Flame” and “Viennese Nights.” Several of these are still playing in various parts of the world. ‘These and other recent colour pictures have proved to us that certain types of outdoor colour pictures, carefully made, can be an important addition to our programme. “We will continue to make a number of colour shorts in Hollywood, featuring historical and outdoor subjects.”
