Smash and Grab Raid On Jeweller's Shop
ROBBER’S SMALL REWARD. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Last Night. A smash and grab raid on the jeweller's shop of T. H. Martin in (Symonds street was carried out shortly after midnight on Friday, but with only minor success. The main front plateglass window of the shop was intact at midnight, but not long after it was broken by someone who threw a piece of tile through it. . Tho tile struck the window rather high up, making a hole about, nine inches in diameter, through which it was somewhat difficult to reach the shelves on which jewellery of considerable value was displayed. As is the custom in most jewellers’ shops the most valuable articles are removed from the window at night, but had the tile shattered the window instead of merely making a hole, watches, rings and other jewellery could have easdy been taken. Only two watches of a combined value of under £5 were taken.
