Accomplished Criminal
WOMAN CHARGED WITH THEFT. SIX MONTHS' IMPRISONMENT Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Sept. 5. “This woman is an accomplished criminal, she has already answered charges arising from breaking, entering, theft, false x lre tences and receiving stolen goods,” slated the police, when Doris May Adams, aged 28, alias McKegg, pleaded guilty to the theft of two frocks valued at £l3 13s from a city shop, and the theft of a handbag and purse with £2 2s 9d. The Chief Detective stated that accused, who was employed as an hotel waitress at Invercargill, arrived last night with Is 9d in her possession. She booked into an hotel and then went into a shop with a suitcase stealing a bag from the counter where a customer had placed it. She then proceeded to another shop where she > was detected stealing dresses.
Counsel said accused was a married woman with two children. She took work at Invercargill to get a home for them. If given a chance she woull settle with her husband at Mossburn.
Inflicting a sentence of six months’ imprisonment, the Magistrate remarked that she had a long record and had been on probation before.
