What Lady Trenchard Told the Constable
“You are quite right; I know you have your job to do," was the remaili attributed by a policeman to Lady Trenchard, wife of Lord ’lrouchatd, former Commissioner of tho Metropolitan Police, when she was told sko would be reported for an . alleged traffic offence. At Hampstead Polico Court her address was given as Dancers Hill House, Barnet, and ho was fined £2 for failing to conform with traffic signals at Hampstead.
Police-Constable Crawford said that when Lady Trenchard’s car was fifty yards from the signals tho light changed to red, but she drove right across. When stopped she said, ‘T did not see them.’’
