Bulls

From Our Own Correspondent. At tho Magistrate’s Court, Bulls, on Tuesday, before Messrs. F. Cutts and B. M. Taverner, J’sP., Robert Bruce McKenzie was charged with negligently driving a motor car on the Parewanui road on July 1. Mr. K. Mackay appeared for the defendant. In outlining the case, the traffic inspector (Mr. H. J. Fowler) stated that the charge was the result of a collision between a car driven by the defendant and another driven by M. C. Gould, baker, of Bulls. Gould had been driving down the Parewanui road and when approaching Whisker’s bend had seen the car driven by defendant approaching him on the wrong side. Ho reduced speed, expecting that McKenzie would see him and go over to his correct side, but it appeared that McKenzie’s attention was diverted by some men working in a inetal-plt at the side of tho road, and’he failed to seo Gould’s car until too late to avoid a collision. Gould went off the road as far as possible. Some damage was done to the vehicles. After the collision Gould's car went 24 feet and McKenzie's 110 feet and ran Into a bank. Photographs were put in by the inspector showing marks made by the cars. He did not suggest that the case was very serious but tho defendant had clearly been negligent. The Bench remarked that on a quiet road the attention of a driver might easily be attracted by men working in a quarry. In entering a plea of guilty Mr. Mackay pointed out that tho collision was only a slight one, tho mudguards being dented, and that no one was injured, and he suggested that the penalty he made a light one. Tho Court imposed a fine of 20s and costs. Miniature Rifle Shooting.
