The drought has made more serious inroads on the nation’s cereals than was previously believed. The maize production is now estimated at 1,439,000,000 bushels, 1,000,000,000 below the normal yield with the astounding loss or 800,000,000 during July. A total wheat crop of 632,000,000 bushels is indicated and this is barely enough to meet the domestic requirements. The yield of oats, barley, rye and other crops will be far below normal as are the fruit and vegetable supplies.
