Sally Eilers and Lee Tracy Make “Carnival”
WHOLE CAST ENDOWED WITH TALENT f f (Kosy: Screening Saturday). xiiree nonest-co-gouuness troupers head the cast of the Columbia picture, “Carnival.” They are Lee Tracy, fast-talking star of more than twenty pictures, Sally Eilers and Jimmy Durante. Tracy trained for years in small touring companies before he ever set foot upon a Broadway stage. Ho played vaudeville, and “ho knows the ropes.” I-lis first big role came in “Broadway” on the New York stage. In this play h<- was a dancer. Later a motion picturo studio bought tho production and Tracy was signed lo play tho same part ho enacted on tho stage. Sally Eilers, beautiful blonde actress, first began in pictures with the famous Mack Sennett. After several years of hard work Jimmy Durante decided he wanted to go on the stage. He started singing songs of his own, improvising in roustabout cafes, etc., and later ho migrated to beer halls with a church charity or lodge benefit sandwiched in. Durante made his motion picture debut in “Boadhouse Night” with Charles Buggies. “Carnival” is the story of a puppeteer, played by Tracy, who tries to bring up his son without a mother.
