From Our Own Correspondent Carnival Ping Pong Dance. Beautiful decorations and numerous novelty numbers were tho outstanding features at a dance held in the Maori Meetinghouse on Friday evening by the local ping pong club to further its funds. According to public opinion the fixture was one of lho jolliest ever staged in Aorangi. A carnival spirit prevailed throughout, the gathering was in the best of good humours and the setting was as picturesque a one as has ever been arranged in the rneetinghouso by the organisers of any social function. Delicate pink and green streamers formed a large canopy, the centre of which was ringed with pretty panterns in the two shades. Fringes across the corners of the building and clusters of balloons suspended from the celling had a very pleasing effect while the-musicians’ dais was adorned with bamboo and fronted with a pink and green lattice. The high standard set by tho Durio brothers’ orchestra was well maintained and bright music for extra dances was played by Messrs. T. Carter and P. Karauli. Mr. J. Baker was M.C. Novelty dances were won as follows: Lucky spot, Miss R. Guard and Mr. G. Rewiti; lucky Gay Gordons, Miss K. Guard and Mr. C. Fisher; Monte Carlo waltz, Miss E. Hope and Mr. H. Merritt; mystery train foxtrot, Miss E. Westreli and Mr. W. Stevens; statue waltz, Miss R. Guard and Mr. K. Rewiti; bobbing sohottische, Miss E. Westell and Mr. B. King; leap year lucky spot veleta, Miss N. RedpaUi and Mr. D. McFarland. A competition for a very acceptable prize was won by Mrs. J. Baker, of Bunnythorpe. In the course of the evening Mr. D. McFarland rendered an excellent yodelling song, a tap dace was very well given by Mr. G. Rewiti, of Bulls, and Mr. C. Stewart, of Feilding contributed a fine song. A snowball and a carnival danco towards the end of proceedings brought the merriment to a climax and left the entire gathering convulsed and almost helpless with laughter. The dance was without doubt an unusually bright one and patrons are already keenly looking forward to another that the ping pong club is arranging to hold a little later on, In all probability as a wind up to its season’s activities. Mrs. R. R. Tail was in charge of the supper and was ably assisted by Mrs. C. Kendrick and members of the club. It was very pleasing that the decorations and all prizes won during the evening should have been donated by club members and at an opportune moment Mr. D. Durie (secretary) thanked them for their generosity, also thoso who had assisted with the entertaining of the patrons, the latter for their support and all others who had in any way contributed towards the success of the function.
