jt The fortnightly meeting of the Shannon Borough Council was held on Tuesday evening, there being present the Mayor (Mr. E. Butt), Crs. Roach, J. Curran snr., J. Curran jm\, Lind, Clayton, Downes, Thwaites. Mr. It. Downes, newly elected councillor, was welcomed by the Mayor and duly sworn in. Correspondence was received from the Palmerston North Free Ambulance requesting that note be made of the fact that the Wellington Free Ambulance was presented with a free ambulance by the Hospital Board. That board had decided to make a grant of £IOOO a year towards the service, and on no account would revert to the previous method of conducting its ambulances. It was decided to write the Palmerston North Hospital Board asking for reasons why the members were opposed to supporting the Free Ambulance Association.
From the Highways Board pointing out the method of control of railway level crossings, which would ho under tho control of that board.
Tenders were received for culverting and channelling in Plimmer terrace and for a section of footpath. The tender submitted by O. P. Olsen for chaneliing and culvert was accepted. The tenders for making a new footpath In Plimmei terrace were held over in view of the fact that more urgent work should be carried out. It was decided that tarsealing of the footpath in Vogel street be carried out.
