Turner, of Palmerston North, received advice yesterday from the Ractihi Borough Council that he has been selected to till the position of Town Clerk, rendered vacant by the appointment of the present clerk to be clerk of the Egmont County Council. Mr. Turner is a son of Mr. and Sirs. Walter Turner and is an old pupil of the Palmerston North Boys’ High School. For the past ten years he lias been on the staff of the Palmerston North City Council. Mr. Turner was a popular member of the Manawatu Golf Club, United Football Club and also a member of the City Council Cricket Club. <s> <s’>s' <s> “An attempt is being made to deal with tho problem of tho late arrival ol train ami bus pupils,” stated Miss S. J. Robinson (acting-principal of the Palmerston North Girls’ High School) in her report to the monthly meeting of the High Schools Board of Governors last night. “There arc some fifty pupils who miss, some of them, as much as an hour every day, through late arrival. The tradio manager has been approached, and has offered to go into the question of bus services from the train and from the Square. An improvement here would be of very great benefit to the work of the country pupils.” The board decided to await the result of the traffic manager’s investigation.
