Warning to Employers
DISMISSAL OF EMPLOYEES. ANTICIPATING THE NEW INDUSTRIAL LEGISLATION Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 25. An intimation that the Government might fake drastic steps to deal with employers dismissing employees in anticipation of the coming into force of the new industrial legislation was given to-day by the Minister of Labour (Hon. H. T. Armstrong).
He said the Government would not hesitate to pass retrospective legislation if that sort of thing became worse. Tho Government had been absolutely reasonable in extending the date on which legislation would come into force. Already complaints had been received of young workers under tho Lactones’ Act being dismissed with the idea apparently of re-engag-in" them after tho Bill became law at 15s a week. Employers could do nothing of the kind and if such men wore not mighty careful they would find the Government taking drastic measures against them.
