Minister Aims to Reduce Road Accidents

Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. Tho nationalisation d£ traffic regulations and traffic inspection are two ot the major provisions of the Motor Vehicles Amendment Bill which tho Minister of Transport, Hon. K. Semple, hopes to be able to bring down be foro Parliament adjourns for a short winter recess.

"Unless we can get proper control over road traffic, we have no chance ol reducing the number of accidents on the roads," said the Minister in an interview. “I regard this as one of our most urgent needs. The Bill will give us power to take this control and to ensure that all vehicles on the roads shall reach an adequate standard of mechanical fitness.”

Mr Semple said tho Bill would provido for a nationalised system of traffic inspecton and nationalised schedule of traffic laws which would apply all over the Dominion. There would be one set of by-laws operating from the North Capo to the Bluff. Every driver with a license would receive a copy, and it would be seen that he understood them. No matter in what part of the Dominion- the motorist happened 1o be, ho would know the regulations he had to obey.

The Minister added that Ibe Government would endeavour to have traffic inspectors uudor proper control and to havo propertly trained men permanently employed on one job.
