pahiatua's New Radio Club

SHOET-WAVE RADIO AS A HOBBY.

An interesting development in Pahiatua recently was the formation of a Itadio Club. The inaugural meeting was held at the -residence of Mr it. B. Glassey, when those present, met the convener, Mr J; Pinhey, late of Wellington. All but one- of the properly local licensed radio transmitters were present, including Mr Colin Walker, whose callsign is ZL2MH, originally ZL2CO, an ox-ship's operator; Mr Clem. Parker, ZL2IX; Mr Glassey, ZL2NS, also the holder of a ship’s operator’s certificate; and Mr Pinhey, ZL2LE, who has been intimately connected with the science of radio for about 14 years, and with amateur rndio as a hobby for the last four. He was editor of the ofhciul organ of the New .Zealand Association of Radio Transmitters, called “BreakIn,” for 1935, and is again a member of headquarters of the association for 1936.

The other member present was Mr Horace Rose, who does not hold a transmitting license at present, but is due to “come on the air” at any time.

Apologies were received from Mr Lou Angelini, ZL2PQ, for his inability to be present. Tho club is to be known as the Pahiatua branch, N.Z.A.R.T., and the next meeting is to be held at Mr Glassey’s home, Main street, on April 23rd, at 8 p.m. At present there are no dues, and no committee. At the next meeting it is proposed to elect a chairman and a secretary, purely to keep in touch with those interested.

The principal reason for the formation of the club is the furtherance of short-wave Tadio as a hobby, and all those interested, no matter how shy or ignorant of radio they may feel, are cordially invited. .
