Broadcasting Policy Not Fixed Yet

B STATION LICENSES WELLINGTON, Last Night. In vicAV of tho more urgent questions that are claiming the attention of Cabinet at tho moment, the Government’s policy in respect of broadcasting has not yet been developed. The Postmaster-General (Hon 1: Jones) stated yesterday that two matters requiring adjustment were the filling oi the position of chairman of the board. Avkicli falls vacant iu a few clays, and the rcliecnsing of B stations. The present chairman is Mr. H. D. Vickery. Mr. Jones said that there had been many requests for neAv licenses from commercial interests, but until the whole question of broadcasting policy had been reviewed it Avas not possible for him to give any indication of what the Government had iu mind. The Minister recalled tho promise made during the election campaign that tiie B stations would receive the Government’s sympathetic consideration, and he made it clear that the Govern incut intended to make good that undertaking. He Avas not yet in a position, however, to say just what form assistance would take.
