Notes of the Day

The Feilding Band of Hope met on Thursday evening With a good attendance. Miss I. Hughes made an excellent leader and the Rev. H. W. Page gave a very fine temperance address. Items*by the children were as follow: Songs by Nola Tremain and Keith Cocker, recitations by Joy Smith, Joyce Phillips, David McGill, Gordon and Allen Stewart.

Mr Roy Allen, of the Feilding staff of tho Bank of New Zealand, has been transferred to and will take his departure after Easter. The vacancy will bo filled by Mr J. F. Reid, of Wellington. Mr M. Hutchinson, representative Rugby player and cricketer of Feilding, has left to take up a position at Napier. Coming to Feilding in the middle of last year Mr Hutchinson soon won for himself positions in the ranks of senior and representative Rugby playing for the Feilding Club, and this summer joined up with the Public Service Cricket Club. He was previously in Wairoa.

At the Feilding Courthouse on Thursday, the district Coroner, Mr Edmund Goodbehere, J.P., held an inquest concerning the death of Laurence Denzil Sanson, aged 21 years, farm hand, who was found floating in a dam on tho property of Mr C. Lawrence, farmer, of Sanson, on March 16th. Sergeant Angland represented the police and after hearing the evidence the Coroner returned a verdict that death was due to asphyxia as a result of drowning, the deceased having taken his life while temporarily of unsound mind. The evidence pointed to deceased doing away w r ith himself in consequence of a refusal of his attentions by a young girl of the district.
