Preliminary Hearing Of Charge of Murder
SEQUEL TO DISPUTE ON FARM Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Last Night. The preliminary hearing of the charge of murder arising out of the death of William Beatty at Waitepeka, South Otago, on February ‘22, concluded yesterday at Balelutba before Mr. H. J. Dixon, S.M., accused, Hugh Urquhart Neil Gunn, being committed to the Supreme Court for trial after the evidence of eight witnesses had been taken. It was alleged that, following a dispute over Gunn’s right to use a roadway through Beatty’s property, Gunn hit Beatty on the head with a heavy manuka stick, causing injuries which resulted in Beatty’s death about six hours later.
