As the result of investigations by tho Minister of Mines (Hon. P. C. Webb), coal companies in the North Island which had been using machines for the extraction of pillar coal have agreed to eliminate the use of the machines for that class of mining, and forty more miners have been employed. This announcement was made by Mr Webb in an interview' at Christchurch yesterday.
