Obituary

MRS. ELLEN JANE SAMES, The death occurred in the Palmerston North Hospital on Wednesday morning of Mrs. Ellen Jane Sames, an old and highly respected resident of Opiki. Although the deceased lady had been in indifferent health for somo time, her death came as a shock to her many friends in the district. Born at Fernside, North Canterbury, in the year IS7O, Mrs. Sames was the second daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Thompson. In 1899 she was married to the late Mr. Henry Sames, who predeceased her 13 years ago. For several years Mr. and Mrs. Sames resided in Palmerston North, where Mr. Sames had a bakery business. In 1926 the deceased lady came to reside with her eldest son in Opui road, Opiki. She was a very keen gardening enthusiast and was never happier than when out among the flowers. Of a quier; and unassuming nature, she will, nevertheless, be missed by a wide circle of friends, and the sympathy of the whole district will go out to her sorrowing family. Those left to mourn their loss are her two sons, Mr. H. Sames, of Opiki, and Mr. S. Sames, of Church street, Palmerston North, and two sisters who reside in the South Island. There are also three grandchildren.
