Bridge Party at Feilding

The series of enjoyable carnival entertainments for Miss Joan Billman terminated on Thursday evening with a delightful bridge party given her by Mrs. T. Collins at her home in Denbigh street. Lovers of beautiful flowers and artistic effects derived a great deal of pleasure from the floral arrangements which were carried out in the drawing room with a profusion of tawny and flame dahlias mingled with richly tinted Virginia creeper leaves and the dining room with large pink bowls of rose Bella Donna lilies and crystal bowls of shaded pink dahlias, zinnias and tinted foliage. Especially effective was a lovely bowl of single pink dahlias upon the black piano, its reflection in a nearby mirror being charming indeed. African marigolds and miniature sunflowers graced the hall. Mrs. Collins, who was gowned in black lace and satin, was assisted in the carrying out of the party by the treasurer of the Women's Institute carnival committee, Mrs. Percy Stevens, wearing nigger brown georgette. Mrs. Collins’ daughter, Mrs. Pat Greville, of' Palmerston North, also helped with the evening and was in green georgette, while Miss Billman chose an attractive little frock of crepe dc chine patterned with flowers in autumn colourings. Two rooms were occupied with bridge players, there being 10 tables, and the prizes were won by Miss M. Entwisle, who carried off the first, and Mrs. E. Bridge the second. A competition for a beautiful cushion, made and donated by Mrs. J. E. Barltrop, was won byMrs. E. E. Short, and a most useful second prize, given by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Corpe, of Beaconsfield, went to Mrs. W. W. Andrews. A feature of the party was the lavish supper provided by the hostess, whose many guests were indebted to her for an extremely pleasant evening.
