Valuable Bush Areas

On several occasions during the past few months the Napier Chamber • of Commerce has approached various Government authorities in regard to the necessity for the conservation of native bush areas in several portions of Hawke’s Baj\ Among the areas brought before official notice in this connection was the Lake Waikarcmoana district, in which there is actually 17,220 acres of bush country—9soo acres on the southern side and 7700 on the eastern side —vested in the Tourist Department. In the opinion of Mr. W. Harvey, of Napier, who visited the area recently, these reserves should be extended to include all Waikare-iti and the area along the road between Waikaremoana and Murupara. “There is a great deal of beautiful virgin bush country in these localities, which should be conserved carefully for tho sake of tourist traffic passing through .this country,” said Mr, Harvey.
