Girls’ High School Sports

A SUCCESSFUL GATHERINGExcept for a rath''? stiff breeze ideal weather conditions favoured the Girls High School yesteiday afternoon when their annual athletic sports were held. Among the many visitors present was Mrs. J. Murray, wife of the Rector of tho Boys ’ High School. Tho officials for the afternoon were: Recorder, Miss L A. Brown; starter, Miss E. F. Turner; call stewards, Miss E. F. Peglar and helpers; tea arrangements, Miss J. B. McLeod, Miss A. R. Griffiths and senior girls; organiser, Miss R. Benstead; judges, Miss J. Mcßae, Miss M. Pridham, Miss S. J. Robinson, Miss K. €. Birnie, Miss J. Hume and Miss C. Weston. Good entries had been received, especially in the open and novelty events, making competition ■ keen among tho various Houses throughout Hie afternoon. The senior chafnpionship was annexed by M; Heggie (Br.) 23 points, with M. Morgan . (Br.) 10 points runner-up. The junior championship was more closely contested and resulted in B. Royal (G.) 18 points gaining the championship and A. Shields (R.) 17 points being the runner-up. Brown caried off the honours in the Houso competitions with 9(5 points, followed by Green with 52, Blue 38, Red 2S, Purple 26 and Orange 5. Afternoon tea proved a pleasing interlude for both visitors and pupils. Masses of- dahlias and hydrangeas in tones of pink and red were arranged in the corridors while on the tables were tastefully arranged vases of dahlias, African marigolds and nasturtiums in bright shades of orange and lemon in one room and asters in pink and mauve tonings in another.
