INNINGS AND 63 RUNS MARGIN HIGH SCHOOL BEAT WANGANUI TECHNICAL In tho game concluded at tho school grounds yesterday', Palmerston North High School beat Wanganui Technical College by an innings and 53 runs. In their first innings the visitors made 96 and at stumps on the opening day Palmerston had knocked up 2GO. Batting again yesterday Wanganui's second innings closed shortly after the luncheon adjournment, the High School team winning by a decisive margin. The weather was brighter than on Tuesday and the wicket wore well. Wanganui, faced with a very big task, did not begin .too well in tlieir second venture, but their skipper, one of the opening batsmen, was playing the rock though without anyone to stay with him. Four wickets wero crown for 24 and five for 29. Then Joyce joined Whiting and they carried tho total to 74 before Joyce got too far over to one from Anderson and was bowled behind his legs. Tkero were seven wickets down at lunch time and tho remaining added 35 runs, the innings closing for 111. Whiting, a very sound bat, knocked up 43 and he gave the impression he would have made many more runs had he been just a little bit more aggressive. Mid-week Cricket UNITED IN GOOD POSITION; OPTIMISTS FIGHTING HARD New games were commenced yesterday in the mid-week cricket competition in the city, P.D.C. meeting United, the competition leaders, and Optimists facing Combined Services. P.D.C. knocked up S 8 in their first innings (Rees 23, including two over the fence, Ellery 19 and Thorburn 11 not out). At stumps United had 167 up for the loss of six wickets (J. Gallichan 40, Hansen 62 not out, Greer 14). Bowling for United, Gallichan took 3 for 20, Jewett 5 for 31 and Cockery 1 for 10. For P.D.C. Rodgers took 5 for 4S. Optimists were dismissed for 58 (Sutherland 22, Oliver 15) and Services replied with 103 (Wheatley 37, Wood ley 28, Weir 14, Ross 13 not out), li: their second innings Optimists aro making a brighter stand, having 112 up foi four wickets at stumps (Sutherland 35.
