“A Night at the Ritz” Is Heralded

TRE CHEF WHO COULDN’T COOK. HAMBURGER STEAK (Kosy; Screening Saturday.) ‘‘A Night at the Ritz,” a Warner Bros, production, is from the story by Albert J. Cohen and Robert T. Shannon. It is a hilarious comedy with fast action and scintillating dialogue. The plot is unique and carries a delightful underlying romance with a little gold-digging thrown in to add to the laughs.

The picturo concerns the high pressure methods of a publicity promoter, who palms off a chef who can’t even cook a hamburger steak, on a fashionable hotel. There is an all-star cast of talented players which includes William Gargan, Patricia Ellis, Allen Jenkins, Dorothy Tree, Eric Rhodes, Berton Churchill, Gordon Westcott, Bodil Rosing, Arthur Hoyt, Paul Poracsi; William Davidson, Mary Trcen and Mary Russell.

William Gargan-and Miss Ellis have the romantic leads, Gargan as the publicity man and Miss Ellis as the girl he really loves, although he has some difficulty in escaping the clutches of the gold digger, a part played by Miss Tree. Jenkins, a ekauffOur, Rhodes, the chef, and AVcstcott,. a columnist, furnish much of the fun. Jenkins causes gales of laughter with his antics as a chauffeur with his slavish devotion to William Gargan. Eric Rhodes gives a fine performance as the chef who couldn't boil water without scorching it. William M. McCann directed the production from a dramatisation of the original story.
