Awahou

From Our Own Correspondent. Unsettled weather still continues in this district, with the result that mangold crops are a failure on many farms and potato crops in some instances are rooting and others are ruined with blight. Tho season has proved a poor one for tomatoes and very light crops in comparison with other seasons' yields arc expected. Very windy weUther was again experienced last week and on Wednesday many poplar trees were snapped off by the gale. A rather unusual sight for this time of.the year is a fruit tree in blossom, but this is not uncommon at the present time: and is due to the springlike conditions. - Footrot is very prevalent amongst sheep'and lambs are not doing as well as usual for plenty of sun and drier pastures are essential for them after being weaned.. Dairy farmers have plenty of grass and the herns are keeping up well. Several farmers from the district attended the Cheltenham Co-operative Dairy Company’s he d day which was held at Makino last week. Numerous white butterflies are to be seen on sunny days in spite of the good work done by tneir enemies, the wasps. Sheep farmers have had a busy time dipping and sorting up their flocks. Excellent prices have been obtained for sheep sold, several lines topping the market at recent sales. A very keen demand is always evident for sheep off the hills in this district and the supply is generally insufficient to satisfy all buyers Tile Awahou North School picnic was held in Mr W.
