From Our Own Correspondent. W.l. Meeting. On AVednesday last the annual meeting of the local branch was held when there was. a very good attendance. The election of officers for the new year took place. Airs D. Rowland was re-elected president and the following members comprised the committee: Alesdames Richardson, Lover, AV. Rowland, W. McEwen, H. AlcEwen, C. Croucher, and tlie Misses M. Rowland, J. Hearsey and Bannister. The competition for tho best hand-embroidered handkerchief was won by' Airs H. Egglesden, with Airs C. Croucher second and Mr.s Alan Buchanan third. The competition for the next month is a pot of jelly. An amusing competition was 'won by Airs H. McEwen, Aliss E. AlcEwen being second. Airs Carmichael, of .New.'Plymouth, tho Alisses Matheson and’ Airs AV. Fell were visitors. Tlie hostesses for the afternoon were Aliss Voss and Alesdames C. Croucher and A. Buchanan. Personal. Aliss Edith AlcEwen has been visiting her sister. Airs Barbour, of Shannon. Mr J. Buick has been an inmate of the Palmerston North Public Hospital for the past week or two. His friends will wish him a speedy recovery from his indisposition. Alaster H. Dampney Is continuing to make good progress towards health, although still in hospital. School Affairs. On Saturday some 20 children from the local school journeyed to Feilding to participate in the public schools’ amateur athletic sports held on. the Kowhai Park. Although the children were not successful in gaining the Collins Memorial Shield, the day was enjoyed by all.
