HIGH SCHOOL BOARD MEETS. There wore present at last evening’s meeting of the Palmerston North High School Board of Governors: Messrs. J. A. Nash (chairman), G. Tremaine, M. H. Oram, T. D. Lynch, IV. R. Birnie, A. J. Graham and Mrs. Aitohison. The principal of tho Girls’ High School (Mrs. M. Rhodes) reported a roll of 200 and average attendance of 273.7. Miss C. Weston, who was appointed to the nciv D grade position, had taken up her duties. The athletic sports would be held on March 25 on the school grounds. Tho contractor had started work on the new rooms. The Rector of the Boys’ High School (Mr. J. Murray) reported a roll of 422 and average attendance of 403. Mr A. A. Langley had presented a cup for competition in the under .14 swimming championship. Mr. Murray suggested that the City Council be approached to have the wire fence between North Street Park and the school grounds, removed. 'The advantages of removal outweighed any possible disadvantage. The Director of the Technical Bigi) School (Mr. (I. ft. Hancox) reported a staff of 17 full-time and 111 part-time teachers. There were 1153 students compared with 1104 this time last year. Train pupils Ind increased to 14S fjoin 125 a year ago, made up as follows: Wellington line. 101 (701; Woodville line, IS (II): and Marlon line, 2D (44). There were 50 bus pupils ns against, 34 a year ago. The weekly hour enrolments numbered 10,25(1. compared with 14,750 in March last year. At March I. the full-time couivnlent roll for the day school was 507. The number last year was 405. Mr. Hancox- reported that the athletic, sports would be held mi the sehool grounds on April 1. It was decided to forward a letter to Mr. E. K. Hodge, Education Board’s architect, expressing appreciation of services rendered in .connection with the plans of the Girls’ High Sehool assembly hall A similar letter is to lie sent Mr. A. A. Langley for his donation of a swimming cup and the Boys' High School Parents’ Association is to be congratulated on the success of -its gala day when £ll3 was raised. Regarding the rector’s suggestion that the fence between North Street Park and the school grounds be removed, it was decided to take no action.
