Those Crippled Children

(To the Editor). Sir,-r-Can you give your readers any information regarding the activities of thoso administering the funds raised to help New Zealand’s crippled children? I read the other day where Mr 0. J. B. Nonvood, of Wellington, who is ono of the leaders in the movement, stated that Lord Nuffield, that generous giver to the cause, was extremely satisiied with what was being done in New Zealand, but as far as tho public arc concerned, I for one, would like to hear just a little more of the activities and to be assured that there is no hold-up as a result of failure to collaborate on tho part of tho various organisations whose sympathies must necessarily be Unlisted. Time is an essential factor in many of these cases of crippled children, especially if it is intended to provide tho necessary medical assistance where tho infirmities arc curable. 1 havo in mind a pathetic case I saw at Otaki last Saturday. A Maori boy of about four years of age was walking about a paddock maintaining a precarious balance on two legs, the feet of which were not only twisted inwards but turned as well, so that the unfortunate little chap took his weight on the side of hig feet instead of the soles. If anything cun be done in a case tike that, obviously the time to do it is when the bones of the feet arc plastic, yet it seems this little fellow is doomed to this awful affliction all his life. — I am, etc., “SUBSCRIBER.” Titania’s Palace Proceeds (To the Editor). Sir,—l feel sure you will be most interested to learn that Hie funds ol the Manawatu branch of the Crippled Children’s Society have been augmented by nearly £3UO as the result of the exhibition of Titania’s Palace recently held in tiiis city. 1 think all will agree that the season was successful and the very sincere thanks of the committee are due to you for the very valuable publicity accorded.—J am, etc., T. W. HENDERSON, Hon. Secretary.
