Konini Women's Institute

The monthly meeting of the Konini W.I. was held in the Konini hall last Thursday, Airs Hirst presiding over a good attendance of members and visitors. Her motto for the day was: “And now with purpose full and clear we turn to meet the coming year.” Mrs Hirst took the opportuaity to welcome Mrs Crewe, who took charge of the election of officers. Mrs Hirst was Te-eleeted president, Airs Avery and Airs Kelly, vice-presidents; Airs Connell, secretary; Aliss AI. HirSt, treasurer; Miss Z. Brown, Press correspondent. The monthly competition for the best plate of sweets was won by Aliss Z. Brown, Mrs Hirst being second and Aliss AI. Brown third. Very interesting demonstrations were given by Airs Harrison on making baskets, coat-hangers and darned mats. The competition for next month is a darned door-mat, which was demonstrated. Sweets were sold and brought in a profit of 14s Gd. The aggregate prize was presented by Airs J. D. C. Crewe, the silver cup being won by Aliss Z. Brown. Mrs Hirst and Airs Miller, tying for second place, were each presented with a pendant and chain. A dainty afternoon tea was then handed round by the hostesses, Airs Groves and Miss Fullman. The singing of the National Anthem brought a happy afternoon to a close. Miss Hirst presided at the piano.
