From Our Own Correspondent. Rifle Shooting. The Bulls Defence Rifle Club fired over 300, 500 and 600 yards on. Saturday, when Rifleman Alf Stevens again headed the list, with the fine total of 101 out of 105. Scores were as follow: A. Stevenson 34, 34, 33, 101; P. Thorby 32, 33, 34, 39; H. Meads 34, 33, 32, 99; W. Jenkins 34, 33, 31, 98; C. M. Broughton 31, 34, 65; F. Simpson 23, 31, 59. Next Saturday a team will go to Mangaweka representing the club at the North Rangitlkei Rifle Association, Mangaweka. Personal. Constable A. Ed© of Bulls left on his annual holiday, going south with Mrs Ede. Constable R. Busch, of Palmerston North, relieves Constable Ede. Mrs W. Natzke has disposed of her farm to Mr Ken Vile. Town Board Monthly Meeting. At the monthly meeting of the Bulls Town Board there were present Cmrs. J. E. Walker (Chairman), F. A. Holland, A. W. Amon, J. J. Mansell, C. 11. Edwards, C. C. Price and D. A. Lundy. Foreman S. Howard reported on work done for the month ending March 11 as follows: Grit has been graded up to tarseallng on main roads with the county graders. Thistles and grass have been mowed off footpaths in Johnston, Hammond, Gorton, Flower, Church, High and Criterion streets. The old Pound has been pulled down, and a dray shed and stall for horse have been built, tool shed repaired, and new fence erected. Fences around trees at. old metal pit have beer: repaired. Water-tables in Lower High street have been cleaned out. Grass har been mowed twice on the domain, and a fire-break has been ploughed. Paths at the cemetery have been kept mowed. Carried out sexton’s duties at cemetery. After discussion it was resolved to attend to Hammond street immediately, the road requiring filling and grading. The chairman reported that he had asked Mr S. A. R. Mair’s opinion of the tar-sealed roads, and Mr Malr said that the roads, with occasional patching, were quite all right for twelve months. It was resolved that a letter be sent to a local resident requesting him to abate a nuisance caused through cows being permitted to wander on a footpath near cow bails. Cemetery building: The architect stated that the contractors were getting the materials ready, and that the building would be erected expeditiously, the work commencing next week. The successful tenderer’s price was £153 10s. . Correspondence. From Mr Alex Wilson, town clerk, Otaki Borough Council, asking for particulars of the cost of building a municipal theatre. —The town clerk was instructed to supply all particulars- possible. From the Public Works Department, advising that subsidy of £l2B 5s 9d had been placed to the town board’s credit. The New Zealand Government Valuation Department advised that the sum of £57 15s 6d, being subsidy on rates collected, had been paid to the board’s credit at the Bank of New Zealand. Bulls. Finance: Accounts ' were passed for payment under the following headings: District fund, £52 14s 3d; library, £3 6s. Collections for the month were: Rates, £l4 Is sd; rents, £lO 10s; heavy traffic fees, £B6 18s 3d; subsidy on rates, £37 15s 6d; main highways subsidy, £l2B 5s 9d; library rent, £1 10s; library subscriptions, £2 Is; domain, £6 6s; total, £307 8s 6d. . Alterations; K. Kemp, builder, applied for a permit to make alterations to a dwelling in Hammond street, the plans having been approved by the health inspector.—Granted. Flood water: It was reported that now that the Greatford road had been raised, flood water travelled down the road and ran into the racecourse and polo ground, and also gathered at the corner leading to the cemetery.—After discussion It was resolved to Interview Mr S. A. R.' Mair, and to see if extra culverts would carry surplus water. Works committee: Cmrs. Mansell. Price and Amon were appointed to act for the ensuing month.
