From Our Own Correspondent. Glen Oroua tennis team visited Carnarvon and played an exciting match with the local club. With sets even, the local club won by 77 games to 63. The following were tho'results, Glen Oroua players being mentioned first:— Ladies’ singles: Miss M. Prebblo beat Mrs Dixon 6—l, Mrs R. Saunders beat Miss Burne 6—l, Mrs Barker lost to Mrs Davison I—G, Mrs Mudford beat Miss N. Scott 6—4. Ladies’ doubles: Miss I J rebble and Mrs Saunders, beat Mrs J. Dixon and Miss D. Burne 6—5, Mrs Barker and Mrs Mudford lost to Mrs Davison and Miss N. Scott 3—G. Men's doubles: Prebble and Parlane lost to Goldfinch and Ingram 3—6, Poupard and H. A. Prebble lost to Burne and Warren 3—G. Mixed doubles: R. Prebblo and Miss Prebble beat Goldfinch and Mrs Dixon 6—4, l-’arlano and Saunders beat Ingram and Miss Burne G—s, poupard and Mrs Barker beat Burne and Mrs Davison G—4, H. A. Prebble lost to J. W, Warren I—G. Women's Institute. The annual meeting ot the local WJ. was held on Tuesday. There was a fair attendance and Mrs A. J. Will (president) whs in the chair. Apologies for absence Were received from Mesdames A. Goldfinch, G. R. McKenzie and R. D. McKelvie. It was unanimously decided that the Institute purchase a supply of cups and saucers. Each member is donating 2d towards the expenses of Mrs Patterson to the world conference at Washington this year. No election was necessary for the office bearers for the ensuing year. Mrs A. J. Will was reelected president and Mesdames P. T. Scott and J. C. Gibbons vice-presidents. The committee elected is as follows: Mesdames J. W. Warren, W. Sandercock, and Misses W. Clare, N. Clare, N. Scott, E. Ayers and Al. Quinlan. Miss W. Clare was re-elected secretary and Miss M. Clare was re-elected treasurer. Misses K. Maxwell and I. Scott were appointed competition stewards for the ensuing six months. In future all competitions are to bo made in one class as there are so few juniors to compete. A small trophy is to be given each month and a points prize for tho whole year. The winners of last year’s points prizes were announced as follows: Seniors, Miss W. Clare; Juniors, Miss E. Ayers. Mesdames P. T. Scott and J. C. Gibbons were appointed delegates for this year. The competition for tlie day, an observation test, was won by Mrs Nelson Scott. The competition for next month is to be six jam tarts and a demonstration of cellophane belt making by Mrs Nelson Scott. The hostesses aro to bo Mesdames D. Short and I<\ J. Thomson and Misses M. Quinlan and IC Maxwell. Two new members were welcomed in Mrs L. A. Barnett and Miss E. Hansen. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Misses N. Clare, N. and 1. Scctt. Personal. Mips Clare, of Wanganui, is tho guest of her brother, Mr C. 11. Clare. Mrs P. T. Scott has returned from a holiday at Beaconsfield. Miss Besslo Scott, who was relieving Miss Flavell, of the Clydesdale School Who was absent on sick leave, has left for Taihape an Miss Flavell has returned to duty. Mrs A. Connelly and Mr Fred Wright Of Palmerston North are visiting Mrs L. R. McKenzie, at “Clydesdale.”
