PRISONERS SENTENCED. Per Press Association. WANGANUI, Feb, 22. At the Supreme Court to-day tho following prisoners were sentenced by Justice Ostler: — Victor Price found guilty of abduction at Eangataua was sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment with hard labour. George Michalick, received six year’s imprisonment with hard labour for rape and indecent assault at Eaetihi. Judge Ostler said ho had seriously considered a flogging which prisoner richly deserved, but would not impose this sentence in view of the fact that lie had pleaded guilty. His Honour said the prisoner was not to be trusted with his liberty and would have to be put away so that children on country roads could be safe. Eric Lionel Healy was admitted to two years’ probation for breaking and entering. Alfred James Webber, aged 31, unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl 15 years and 8 months, received two years’ imprisonment with hard labour. His Honour commented that the girl had been placed in the prisoner’s trust, which he betrayed. Moianga Utiku Marumaru, who had been convicted, was ordered to come up for sentence if called upon, for slashing a young Maori woman in the face with a safety razor blade. Prisoner was given an excellent character. It was explained that the act which occurred in Victoria Avenue was not premeditated.
