Centre Holds Tourney

CONTEST WILL BE FINALISED NEXT SATURDAY

Commenced on Saturday with ten entries the Manawam Bowling Centre’s champion of champion single tourney will be concluded this Saturday when C. Forbes (Woodville), E. Shand (Manawatu) and E. Wort (Northern) will contest the issue.

The Takaro Club’s green was in good, order for the play although the recent* rains made it rather heavy. Each game was of 21 heads, the competition being conducted on the two-life system. First Bound.

W. Bull (Levin) 24 v. E. Russell (Takaro) 12. E. Shand (Manawatu) 18 v. E. Hick’s (Oroua) 16.

G. Eckersley (Terrace End) 20 v. F. Wort. (Northern) 14. C. Forbes (Woodville) 24 v. R. Ramsay (Palmerston North) 13. H. Morgan (Shannon) 17 v. W. Lowrie (Dannevirke) 10. At the 13th head Shand and Hicks wdre even at 9—9, the former leading 15—14 at the 19th. Shand then put on three points, his opponent only getting a second on the final head.

Ramsay started well against Forbes and led 12—7 at .the 12th head. Forbes added 4 and his opponent a single on the 14th. Forbes was the only one to score after this. Second Round.

Hicks 17 v. Russell 12. Bull 21 v. Morgan 14. Forbes 24 v. Lowrie 14. Shand 18 v. Eckersley 15, Wort 24 v. Ramsay 15.

Ramsay led Wort 14 —11 on the 14th but the latter made good use of the remaining heads to tane the game.

Bull established a lead of 16 —10 over Morgan and won comfortably.

On the 16th head Shand was ahead of Eckersley by 13 —11. The latter then made it 15 —13 iu his favour on the 19th while Shand next secured a 3 and a 2 to give him the match.

Third Bound,

Shand 25 v. Bull 18. Morgan 21 v. Eckersley 15. Wort 20 v. Hicks 16.

Forbes a bye. On the ninth head Bull was 16 —3 against Shand, increasing it to 18 on the next head and not scoring again. At the twentieth, Shand had increased his lead to 23.

Hicks was 10 at the 11th head and even with Wort. He then gained 2 with his next but at the 17th was still 12 with Wort at. 19. Fourth Bound Forbes 18 v. Bull 7. Wort 21 v. Morgan 19. Shand a bye. "

Bull had collapsed in the previous round and ho could not get the strength of the green even in the next match with Forbes when ho was outbowied.

Morgan drove twice in his game versus Wort; once at the 19th and again at .the 21st head to catch only one bowl when Wort was lying four. Deciding Matches.

Next Saturday at 9.30 o'clock, or 10 a.m., Forbes and Shand, who each have had three wins will meet at Takaro.

The loser of this game will then meet Wort, who is a one-lifer. The winner of the two games will follow to decide the championship.

MANAWATU PLAYERS TO MAKE CENTRE VISITS.

Light Manawatu rinks, representing tho local centre, are to visit Auckland and South Auckland, these being return matches. The bowlers will leavo Palmerston North to-morrow at 6 p.m. by the express, arriving at Auckland the next day. At 10 a.m. on Thursday they will play Ponsonby and the Auckland Centre at 2.30 p.m. at the Carlton green. They will then leave for Hamilton to play South Auckland at. Hamilton on Pebruary 28 at 2 p.m. They will leave at. 5.56 p.m. for Palmerston North.

ORQUA BEATS PALMERSTON ON PRIENDLY VISIT,

Pour rinks from the Oroua Club visited the Palmerston North Club’s greens on Saturday and were successful in a friendly contest by 86 points to 67. Details, with the visitors mentioned first:—

Mason, Pearson, Hamilton, Loach (3kip) 22 lost to Green, Hogg, Mowlem, A. Wilson (skip) 24. Wildbore, McDonald, Wood, Simpson (skip) 23 beat Croad, Coleman, Ferguson, Norris (skip) 14.

TAKARO TEAM AGAINST LEVIN.
