Friendly Societies’ Picnic Committee
SECRETARY CONGRATULATED,
The final meeting of the Friendly Societies’ picnic committee was held on Thursday evening for the purpose of receiving the report and balance sheet of the recent picnic. The members expressed themselves as very well satisfied with the attendance at the picnic, and also with tho state of the finances as shown by the balance sheet. After the adoption of the balance sheet, Mr J, T. Paget expressed the appreciation of .the committee of the services of . the secretary, Mr S. J,. Matthews, who, said the speaker, had worked very assiduously, and to him credit must be given for the success of the day’s gathering. He was certain it would be very hard' indeed to find a better secretary to look after the running -of the picnic. Mr Matthews had canvassed the business people of the town with very gratifying results, in a very tactful and efficient manner, and the smooth manner in which-the ervents were run off speaks well of his ability for organisation.
Mr A, E, South heartily endorsed the previous speaker’s remarks, and he also was of the opinion that it would bo next to impossible to obtaia the. services of anyone who would carry out tho secretarial duties in a more efficient Jr capable manner than Mi Matthews, and it spoko very well indeed of his capabilities that the balance sheet was returned by the auditor without any tags, and disclosed such a satisfactory condition, In conclusion, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the honorary auditor, and the secretary was instructed to forward a letter of thanks to him for his services.
