Railway Employee’s Leg Severed

CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night.
Slipping on part of a cattle stop mado greasy by misty rain, Patrick O'Callaghan, a railway employee at tho Springfield railway station, fell in front of a number of trucks which were being shunted in the yard this evening and the wheels of one truck passed over one of his legs just below the knee and practically severed it. O’Callaghan had been riding on one of tho trucks while shunting and slipped off on to the board alongside the cattle stop. He failed to gain a foothold and fell, one leg crossing tho track. o'Callaghan after receiving medical attention on the spot was brought to tho Christchurch Hospital.
