Television Announcer
RED-HAIRED PEOPLE BARRED LONDON, Dec. Id. Red-haired men and women aro ex eluded by the British Broadcasting Corporation from appointment as television announcers. An official of the 8.8. C. states that they arc barred because the colour of their hair cannot satisfactorily be transmitted.
lit spite ot the assurauce that purely technical reasons dictated the ban, redhaired people, particularly women, are incensed. Marion Lome, auburn-haired actress, characterises the decision as absurd, adding: “I cannot (?ee what difference reel hair can make to tele-
vision.”
Last month, it was announced that the which will begin the first test television transmission from the Alexandra Palace in February, was seeking a “superwoman” as the first television announcer.
