Rinks Championship in Full Swing

Four Rounds Completed at Dominion Bowling Tourney

Nine Combinations Undefeated Per Press Association.

CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night,

Tregurtha (Opawa) 21 beat Mulligan (Beckenham) 20. E. A. Smith (United) 23 beat Whibley (Greymouth) 17.

Four of the eight rounds in the sectional play for the rinks championship at the New Zealand bowling tourney were completed on Saturday and four rounds have still to be played.

Section E Third Round

At tho end of the fourth round the following rinks were undefeated: Stratford (Dickinson skip), Hataitai (Brighting), Onehunga (Livingstone), Christchurch (Marks), Dunedin (Anderson), Shirley (Ramsay), Roslyn (Tyrrell), United (E. A. Smith), North End, Timaru (Currie). The Grey Lynn rink skipped by Whittle, who won the rinks championship of 1935, was defeated by a Sumner rink (Barlow skip). The result was a surprise and the success of the local rink, who had been playing very well, was most popular with Christchurch bowlers. Whittle also lost the fourth round game. '

Beer (Napier) 37 beat Edwards (St. Ivilda) 14. Hutchison (Dunedin) 22 beat Hayward (St. Albans) 27. O’Callaghan (Epsom) 29 beat Noad (Lyall Bay) 16. McNish (Canterbury) 28 beat Wilkinson (Beckenham) 24. Wilson (Christchurch) 22 beat Healey (Waimate) 16.

Eourth Bound McNish (Canterbury) 21 beat Healey (Waimate) 10. Hutchison (Duendin) 23 beat Wilkinson (Beckenham) 18. Ailson (Christchurch) 29 beat Edwards (St. Hilda) 15. Beer (Napier) 35 beat O’Callaghan (Epsom) 21. Hawyard (St. Albans) 20 beat Noad (Lyall Bay) 14.

Barlow went on for another win at the Elmwood green on Saturday. A remarkably even match between Thorndon (Casey skip) and Ivaikorai (Upton skip) ended in favour of Thorndon by tho narrow margin of 35—34. Remarkable scoring was acliicved in the game between rinks skipped by Henry (Edgewarc) and Sunderland (Alexandra). The gamo was woe fairly easily by Henry’s rink by 33 to 17. Henry has a good rink, with Crocker as a very solid lead, and with D. G. Burns, who went so well in the first rounds oi the singles, as second player and Matson as third man. If the rink koeps up its successes cn Monday and Tuesday, it will havo a good chance of going on to tho post-sectional play. In their fourth round game against the rink skipped by Stephenson, of Neison, the West Harbour rink (Dunedin) scsored a seven at the eighth head, all with drawn shots. At tho end of tho third round the West Harbour rink, which is skipped by Vcitch, who has with him McPherson, his lead when he won the pairs championship at the 1934 Dominion tournament, had three wins, and its chances were favoured.
