Noted Bandmaster Retires
MR GEORGE BUCKLEY, OF AUCKLAND. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Last Night. Having attained the age of 05 years, Mr George Buckley has retired from the position of bandmaster of the Auck land Municipal Band after live years’ service. Mr Buckley, who was born at Port Chalmers, was appointed conductor of tho band there at the age of 19. After being the conductor of other South Island bands, Mr Buckley went to Wanganui, where he established the Alexandra Band, which won the 1928 and 1930 contests and was second in the 1929 contest. He won high honours, both as a cornet soloist and as a bandmaster.
