Publicity Campaign to Extol Virtues of Wool
HOSIERY TRADE’S MOVE
United Press Association— By Electric . Telegraph.—Copyright.
LONDON, Jan. 8
Leading Bradford wool men met and approved the hosiery trade’s proposal to launch a campaign to encourage the use of wool in view of the inroads made on the market by cotton, linen, and rayon. The possibility will be raised of adapting machinery to knit artificial fibres for hosiery or to continue with wool against foreign competition, mainly Japanese. Some speakers thought the campaign was unnecessary in view of the absorption of Australia’s 3,000,000 bale clip, but others emphasised that other countries rather than Britain were consuming it. Work (they said) must be provided for Britons, and use must be found for the Australian clip if, it continues to increase. It was considered that a collective effort to emphasise the virtues of wool should be made in Australia.
