Feilding Observations

A large attendance and a light yarding were seen at a brisk sale yesterdap*rincipal interest centred on the Orui draft of 2000 wether lambs, freshly shorn and well grown. These made 17s and 17s 4d for the tops. The remainder averaged 15s 4d. The store sheep entry comprised principally w.f. lambs, with a sprinkling of b.f. lambs and a few aged ewes. It will take another sale or two to establish New Year sheep values locallv. Generally there was an optimistic feeling and a widespread belief that lamb and wether values will firm on London. Many think that lamb will possibly make 8d by the end of the month, on local schedule; some expect wethers to go to 24s or 25s in February. Romney rams are feeing advanced in price. Several first picks have been sold at £l2 12s, compared with £S 8s last year. In some cases opening prices were at last year's rates and have since been advanced.

Cull lambs are expected to be in lighter supply this year owing to excellent feed. Prices may not advance proportionately, as the dairy-farm demand will probably be lessened. On 3 dairy-farmer in a moderate way fattened 300 lambs last year. This , year he intends to fatten but half that number. He says that butter-fat is now worth money and he will give the cows all the grass they want.
