The production of controllable pitch airscrews in Britain, which dates from the acquisition in 1934 of certain American patents by the Dc Havilland Company, is making steady progress. The manufacturers have contracts aggregating several hundred thousand pounds. Controllable pitch airscrews will be fitted lo 29 new large flyingboats under order for addition lo Imperial Airways’ commercial fleet. A variable pitch propeller increases operational speeds and eases tho loads imposed on the engine.
