Ballroom Dancing

Miss Beth Parkes, after a successful first season, is closing her studio in Palmerston North until’ early next season. Miss Parkes’s ambition has been to improve the general style of dancing and to introduce a soft easy movement into ballroom dancing. For the portion of the crowd not interested in the modern dances, those generally known as “social shufflers” she has pointed out the value of a simple dance known as “crush dancing,” which may bo danced to ariv music, house the reason for its increasing popularity. Demonstrations of the modern waltz, quickstep and midway rhythm ■ have been danced by Miss Parkes with Mr Matthew Stratton, of Auckland, and Mr Athol Beale, who recently won the X.Z. Ballroom Championships. Next season they hope to dance the slow foxtrot and tango.
