Cricket Coach for Manawatu
AN APPEAL TOR HELP (To the Editor.) JSir, —Not only cricket enthusiasts but all others interested in the advancement of our city, read with pleasure tho City Council's decision to engage Mr, G. A. Wheatley, of the Balmain Cricket Club, .Sydney, as grounds-man-coach at Palmerston North.
Unfortunately before the engagement was completed, a hitch arose over tlie question of transport and this was only overcome by the Manawatu Orickot Association, at a moment’s notice) undertaking to provide £7O lor transport in addition to its oilier obligations under its agreement with the City Council. It appeared to those responsible that Mr. Wheatley was so particularly well qualified and that the engagement had met with such universal approval, that such an opportunity to advance cricket might not occur again for years. The Cricket Association is now, for the first time for very many years, appealing for support, particularly by the enrolment of honorary members in order to meet its undertaking, and we trust that the citizens of Palmerston North will, with their usual liberality, accord the appeal a very liberal support. —We are, etc.. A. E. HANSFORD, President. A. M. ONGLEY, Chairman, E. A. BRACE, Secretary. For Manawatu Cricket Association.
