Supply of Electricity to Hospital
RIVAL BODIES BEING ASKED TO QUOTE
Quotations arc being obtained by the Palmerston. North Hospital Board for the supply of electricity from the Palmerston North City Council, from which it at present obtains its supply, and also from tho Manawatu-Oroua Power Board.
At its meeting yesterday the Hospital Board authorised its managingsecretary (Mr. A. J. Phillipps) to send the following letter to both supply authorities:—
“I have to advise you that thus board has been considering the question of alternative sources of supply of electrical power. “It was decided to approach your board or council to ask that a quotation bo supplied to the board for the supply of electricity for its requirements within the Palmerston North borough. “It is desired to point out that there aro certain aspects of this matter which require consideration in connection with any offer you make. “Firstly, as regards tho nature ox the charge—a flat-rate unit charge would be tho most satisfactory from our point of view, rather than separate charges for heating, cooking, lighting, etc.
“.Then ,as regards the supply, X W'ould bo glad if you win advise with your quotation what safeguards you can offer as regards supplies from different sectors and as regards supplies from different sources.
“Another aspect which it is desired to mention is uniformity of voltage in supply. It is most desirablo that voltage as nearly uniform as possible should be maintained. It will be realised that our load varies very considerably during the day, and that the X-ray department requires most of its supply at times when there is a heavy draw-off for cooking, etc., and this aspect of the matter requires careful attention. Again, voltages fluctuating much above* normal are dangerous to tho valverectified X-ray unit. “The board will bo glad to hear from you in this matter iu due course.” Prom the Amalgamated Farmers’ and Dairy Farmers’ Union was received tho following resolution: “That in future tho Palmerston North Hospital Board should draw its power from the Mana-watu-Oroua Power Board, instead of tho City CouncU. ” . Without comment, the resolution was .received.
