A rumbling earthquake violently rocked Helena. One man was killed by falling bricks and storefronts toppled into (ho street, sending pauic■slriekcn citizens scurrying into the open. A scries of fires is reported to have broken out. It. was the sixtieth of a series of lesser shocks which began six days ago. Other .Montana cities felt the shocks but suffered no damage.

Fire Adds to Terror

Received Sunday, 9.50 p.m. HELENA, Oet. 19.

Fires in various parts of this city broke out to-night, adding to the terror of sixteen successive quakes last night and to-day. Two persons wero killed and 43 injured seriously enough to require medical attention. Several hundred others received minor injuries.

Slight tremors continue to be felt at irregular intervals. The damage is estimated at between two and three million dollars. In addition' to a number of structures collapsing, L'OO houses are held to be unsafe for habitation.

Geological experts said they believed tho disturbance occurred along a ‘ ‘fracture ’ ’ probably one of two to live miles underground.

The quakes wero felt in surrounding States and in parts of Canada. National Guard troops wero mobilised to help light the fires, preserve order and prevent looting.
