The Apiti health stamp campaign committee met at the Parsonage on Thursday evening. There werer 11 present with Mr. W. McKay in trie chair-, it was decided to purchase health stamps anu make them up in packets for sale and m this way spread interest in this goou cause which is worthy of the support ol the public. The aims and objects of the campaign were discussed. The meeting concluded with supper. “Girl in Red.” Miss Li La Rosslyn, the lady cyclist who is touring New Zealand and is now wellknown as ‘‘The Girl in Red,” visited Apiti for a couple of days and during her staj was the guest of Mrs. C. M. Stanley. Misa Rosslyn is correctly named as the gin in red for her riding costume of coat, breeches and overcoat are bright red in colour and worn with riding boots gloves, beret, scarf and handkerchief of tho same vivid shade. Miss Rosslyn’s coat from shoulder to waist-line is covered with a miscellaneous collection ot badges and' good luck charms presenteu to tho cyclist by well-wishers in various parts of tho world. A red glass ornament jauntily pinned in her beret and a row of diamante buttons on her coat are necessary additions to her costume for when travelling at night they act as rollectors to warn traffic that the lady in red is on the road.- Noticed among Miss Rosslyn’s badges were the badges of the Rotary Club and the . New Zealand Women’s institute. Tennis Club.

The annual meeting of the Apiti Tennis Club was held on Wednesday evening. Mr. J. lit. Kilgour presided over a small attendance. The secretary, Mr. C. P. Viles, read the balance-sheet disclosing the ciub’s finances to be in a satisfactory position. Owing to the numDer of resignations tendered during the season the membership was much below that of the previous year. With reduced numbers it was at times difficult to arrange teams for matches. Those who took part in the matches enjoyed the games and look forward to the coming season. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr. N. K. Gould; president, Mr. J. D. Kilgour (re-elected); vie'e-presidents, Messrs W. M. Duncan, A. E. Prujean, T. IC McLean, J. H. Gubbins. A. R. McNae; secretary, Miss M. Osborne; club captain, Mr. W. H. Watson; executive committee, Mesdames Kilgour and Waterson, Messrs £l. Schmidt, C. Osborne, D. Kearney, auditor, Mr. W. McKenzie, junr. (reelected); delegates, Messrs Kilgour and Watson.

A vote of thanks was passed to the auditor, Mr. W. McKenzie, junr. It was decided that in future the secretary receive an honorary subscription for season of office. Membership subscription is to be reduced this season. Laykold is to be procured for dressing courts. The opening day was arranged for Saturday, October 19. Votes of thanks were passed to all retiring officials for services to the club. Personal. Miss May McNae, of Halcombe, is at present staying with Miss Madge McKay. Mr. and Mrs. J. TL Gubbins spent the week-end at their beach cottage at Raumati. Dance. On Friday evening a successful dance was organised by the Apiti Health Stamp campaign committee. The music was supplied by Mr. D. Carr and his orchestra from Rangiwahia, while extras were given by Mrs. H. L. Osborne and Mr. Carr. Messrs R. C. J. Martin and C. McKay wcie the M.'sC. During the evening" Mr. C. M. Stanley sang two songs, accompanied by Mrs. Stanley. Some of tho non-dancers played draughts and cards in the supper room. Mr. W. McKay thanked those present for supporting the health stamp campaign and asked them to make known the objects of She campaign which is a cause worthy of the support of all. Supper was then handed round, arrangements being in the hands of Mesdames M. E. A. Martin, H. L. Osborne, W. McKay, C. M. Stanley, W. J. Viles, A. R. McNae, H. Wiidbore, Messrs W. McKay and Stanley. Mr. H. Wiidbore was tho doorkeeper. After a week of fine weather the countryside is looking very fresh and green with growth of grass coming away well aided by warm sunshine after the recent rains. Docking operations are completed on many farms and in many cases the lambing percentages are somewhat below the average, this being due to the severe weather experiened in the early lambing season.
