Oroua Lodge of Druids

PAST OFFICERS’ NIGHT. At the fortnightly meeting of the Oroua Lodge of Druids held in the Oddfellows’ hall, Cuba street, on Tuesday evening, the various Lodge offices were filled by past officers, P.S. Bro. Mew'ett presiding and the following officers assisting him as A.D.: V.A., Bro. A, F. Jackson; secretary, Bro. A. Cookslev; J.P.A, Bro. Lowndes; treasurer, Bro. Skinner; Mi secretary, Bro. Lyall; 1.G., Bro. Buchanan; 0.G., Bro. R. Butcher; A.D.B.’s, Sisters M. Lennox and Jackson; VA.B.’s, Bros. Urc and A. Butcher; M.C., Sis. B. Lennox. A large number of members was present. A motion of sympathy with Bro. Jhaka in his recent bereavement was carried in silence. One candidate was initiated into the Order and two more proposed for membership. An invitation was received from All Saints’ Men’s Club to attend a church service and a good number signified their intention to attend. A debate is being held at a meeting of Acorn Lodge and members of Oroua were invited to roll up in full to support their team. An invitation to attend a social and dance wag received and accepted from Loyal Manawatu Lodge. A challenge to a bowls match was received from the Rechabites and the bowls team will attend. P.S. Bro. Mewett, on behalf of the past officers, thanked the A.D. and officers of the Lodge- for inviting them to conduct tho business of the evening, and also expressed his pleasure at tho largo muster of past officers present. It was decided to hold a dance in honour of tho official visit to bo paid by the Friendly Societies’ Council delegates and sister Lodges of the Order are being invited. After the closing of Lodge a dainty supper was dispensed by the stewards and members indulged in bowls and cards.
