Serious Drought in Otago
MORTALITY AMONG- LAMBS. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Last Night. North Otago is still drought-stricken and concern is being felt by the farming community. The rainfall experienced in the district since the beginning of the year has been well below the average and unless a change occurs soon crops will be seriously affected. During the last few weeks rapid changes in temperature have brought up theratening weather, but in all only 60 points of rain were recorded. There has been high mortality in lambs this season and the dry conditions have been largely responsible for tills sot back to farmers. One farmer said he bad lost more lambs this season than for the whole of last Year.
Water 5s again being carried in many parts for household purposes anrl the outlook generally is serious. Good Season for Wool Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, lust Night. Owing to woather conditions iu Otago being favourable this season for wool production, one of tho heaviest, and best-conditioned wool clips for many years is expected. It is anticipated that prices will show a definite though possibly not a large improvement over those of last year.
