From Our Own Correspondent. The members of the Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild spent a pleasant afternoon at the residence of Mrs G. H. Gubbins on Tuesday. The 'secretary reported on' the materials purchased during the past few .months, and stated that the work would be finished shortly to make a well laden sewing stall at the '.sale of work next -month., The Table Plat members are to be asked to have charge of the sweet stall as they have done for 'the past few years: . - Afternoon tea , was handed around by Mrs Gubbins. Snioke Concert. On Friday evening the supporters of the Football Club gathered for the annual smoke concert. Mr IV. J, Osborno presided and read an apology from Mr R. Cheyne. l’roceedings commenced with tile loyal' toast. The following toasts were ‘then honoured: The Apiti Football Club, proposed by Air K. Muir, Air W. J. Osborne replied and. he then ; prdposed “The I’atrdn,” to which All" C. AlcKenzie responded on behalf of his-father, Mr Wm. AlcKenzie senr. “The Oroua Sub-union'' was proposed by Air W. Malone. The local delegates, Messrs C. Osborne and A. R. AlcNae replied. “The President” was proposed by Air A. Dobson and Air AV. J. Osborne responded. Air L. Pawson proposed .“The Secretary” to which Air 11. G. Alapson replied. Air C. AlcKay proposed “Senior Team Captain and Vice-captain,“ Messrs L.. Pawson and AlcKenzio replying. “The Junior Team Captain and Vice-captain” was proposed by Air P. Alalone and replied to by AJessrs Geo. Guthrie and E. SignalDuring the evening songs and popular choruses were sung with zest by all present. Alclntyro (Apiti branch of the Farmers’ Union), and A. R. AlcNao (Apiti Dairy Co.). All- W. McKay acted as chairman and Air R. C. J. Alartin as secretary for tlie meeting. The chairman called upon tho convenor to explain tlie aims and objects .of the health stamp campaign to the meeting. Following a comprehensive address on this worthy cause by Atrs Alartin during which it wss explained that the Dominion Association hoped to have 1000 committees operating and to raise this year a sum of £11),000 for the. maintenance of children at health camps, tlie meeting was thrown open for discussion, Tlie meeting unanimously decided that all present should be elected to tlie committee with power to add to their number. Mr W. AlcKay was elected chairman while Airs Al. E. A. Martin was installed Os treasurer ajid Rev. Air Hatchett as secretary. The secretary wa.s instructed to approach business organisations in the Apiti district with a request that they utilise health stamps fur a period of three months. The committee decided to inaugurate the campaign in Apiti . by holding a social and dance on the 27th instant. A meeting of the committee will bo held at Mr Hatchett’s residence at 8 j.m. on the 26th instant.
