From Our Own Correspondent. Gun Club.

Wednesday afternoon last saw the finish of the competition matches conducted by tlie AVoodville Gun Club when the club championship and the Woodvlllo County championship were shot off. The shooting conditions were nearly its bad as it was possiblo to be, heavy rain falling continuously throughout the afternoon while a gusty wind made the birds vary their flight in au amazing manner at times. Eleven shooters were on the mark in the county championship and when the last bird had been shot at it was found that Messrs J. T. Martin, F. D. Mackie and J. T. Horne were even with 14 birds each. In the shoot-off for the trophy the holder, Mr J. T. Martin was again successful. This event was followed by the club championship, also a match of 1? birds of the Hi yard mark. Consistent shooting by N. A. Trussing saw him annex the honour with a total of. l(i birds, being closely followed by W. A. Thomson and C. Mackie with 15 each. Gun Club Annual Dinner.

Following on the championship shoots the AVoodville Gun Club held its annual dinner on AA'ednesday evening, tiro function being well attended by members and supporters of the club. The president, Mr Alfred Ramsden, was in the chair and the evening went with a great swing from start to finish. Entertainment was provided by a mouth organ and accordeon band composed of Messrs A. Harris, H. Lagor, J. Charles, R. Thorne, L. Hurley and R. Blbby, whose spirited items were greatly' appreciated. Messrs Thorne and J. Brandon contributed a step dance and song, Mr R. Henderson (Auckland), a Fannin and A. Olsson and duets byrecitations, vocal solos by Messrs S. L. Messrs Charles and R. Thorne and Fannin and Thorne completed the programme. A short toast list was gone through, comprising the New Zealand Gun Clubs’ Association (A. Ramsden —J. T. Horne),l AVoodville Gun Club (S. L. Fannin—A. Ramsden), trophy donors (\V. H. Toogood—R. G. Smith), our hosts (C. Mackie—S. Turnbull and A. Ramsden), the president (F. Mackie —A. Ramsden), enetrtainers and visitors (G. DeAth—P. R. Boagey), Hie ladies (AV. Miller—J. T. Martin). During the evening tho president took the opportunity of presenting the trophies won during the year and congratulated the winners on their respective performances. Trophy winners were: Open class, R. G. Smith (X. D. Stubb’s trophy) i, C. Mackie (,T. Brandon's trophy) 2; B. K. Thomson (N. D. Stubb’s trophy) 1, J. T. Martin (Horne and Co's trophy) 2; F. D. Macki* (\V. H. Brotherstone’s trophy) 1, X. A. Prussing (A. Ramsden’s trophy) 2. Novice class, .f. T. Martin (A. Ramsden’s trophy) 1, Rory Smith (AV. AV. Cook’s trophy) 2; J. T. Kearins (R. G. Smith's trophy) ), a. Ramsden (AV. AV. Cook’s trophy) 2; J. T. Horne (AV. AA r . Cook's trophy) i, C. Mackie (R. G. Smith's trophy) 2. The Mackie cup for the best two out of three shoots was annexed by Mr J. T. Martin, who also collected the Isherwood cup for the host first barrell performance in the Mackie cup series of shoots. Mr Martin topped off the season by retaining the AVoodville County championship. The club championship went to Mr X. A. Prussing, of Pahiatua. Loss by Fire.

Still another loss by fire, occurred in AVoodville when the dwelling of Mrs AV. C. AVade, of the Ahuaturanga block was totally destroyed at about 6 p.m. on Thursday evening. A high wind was blowing at the time and practically nothing was saved from the building. The building was insured in the State Fire Office for iiGOO, while tlie contents were covered by the London, Liverpool and Globe Company.
