Returned Soldiers’ Golf Tournament
TO BE HELD AT BELMONT LINKS The second returned scldicrs’ tournament is to be held at Belmont links, Wanganui, on Thursday,= September .. play to commence at I p.m. It v r il! be open to any returned soldier who left New Zealand and also to members of any force outside New Zealand who served in the Great War, one round of 18 holes to be played at stroke and bogev score to lc taken. Following me the matches to be played: Returned Soldiers’ Championship (holder, A. E. Ekstedt.)-Best gross score. Stroke play. Anzac Stroke Match.—Best net score on handicap.
Gallipoli Bogey Best net score on handicap.
Teams’ Stroke [Match. Teams of four; aggregate net score. Teams to be nominated with entry. Each team to consist of players of the same unit. Any players who cannot arrange a team will be drawn by the commmittcc. First Wellington Battalion Championship. —Best net score on handicap. Second Wellington Battalion Championship. —Best net score on handicap. N.Z. Rifle Brigade Championship Best, net score on handicap. “Footsloggers’ ” Championship (excluding Wellington and Rifle Brigade Battalions.) —Best net score on handicap. Artillery, Mounted Rifles and Machine-Gunners’ Championship. —-Best net score on handicap. Other Units (Air Force, 15.A.M.C., Engineers, Navy, A.I.F. Impcrisd Forces etc.) —Best net score on handicap. A “Limbies’” championship will also be arranged if there arc sufficient entries. Where a player is not a member of an affiliated club, handicap must bo certified by a member of an affiliated club. Entries close with I\. I). Smart care box 105, Wanganui, on Monday, September 2, 1935. Unit and rank are to be given with entry, also club handicap. Entrance fee for all events, including green fees, will be 5/-. Trophies will be awarded to winners and runners-up. In order to give the afternoon a “digger’’ aspect players are asked to wear their company badges, battalion patches, military tunic or hat, or any other war souvenir that they may have in their possession. The presentation of prizes, etc., will be held at the Belmont “Estaminct” at the conclusion of the day’s “lighting.”
HOKOWHITU COURSE CLOSED ON SATURDAY
There was no golf at Hokowhitu on Saturday, the course being closed. Nine holes were playable yesterday ar.d a number of enthusiasts braved the elements with the idea of getting some fresh air. There was three parts of a gale blowing and they could not have been disappointed.
